Wisdom الحكمة

  1. Wisdom is a garden for the intelligent and a promenade for the noble.

1ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ رَوْضَةُ العُقَلاءِ، ونُزْهَةُ النُّبَلاءِ.

  1. Wisdom does not settle in the heart of a hypocrite except that it departs from it [soon after].

2ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ لاتَحِلُّ قَلْبَ المُنافِقِ إلاّ وهِيَ عَلَى ارْتِحال.

  1. Wisdom is the lost property of every believer, so take it even if it be from the mouths of hypocrites.

3ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ ضالَّةُ كُلِّ مُؤْمِن، فَخُذُوها ولَوْ مِنْ أفْواهِ

المُنافِقينَ.

  1. Wisdom is a tree that grows in the heart and bears [its] fruit on the tongue.

4ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ شَجَرَةٌ تَنْبُتُ فِي الْقَلْبِ، وتُثْمِرُ عَلَى

اللِّسانِ.

  1. Fill your heart with wisdom and don the attire of tranquillity for these two are the ornaments of the virtuous.

5ـ اِسْتَشْعِرِ الْحِكْمَةَ، وتَجَلْبَبِ السَّكِينَةَ، فَإنَّهُما

حِلْيَةُ الأبـْرارِ.

  1. The beginning of wisdom is abandoning [worldly] pleasures and its end is loathing the transitory.

6ـ أوَّلُ الْحِكْمَةِ تَرْكُ اللَّذّاتِ، وآخِرُها مَقْتُ الفانِياتِ.

  1. The greatest wisdom is for the human being to know himself and to remain within his limits.

7ـ أفْضَلُ الحِكْمَةِ مَعْرِفَةُ الإنْسانِ نَفْسَهُ، ووُقُوفُهُ عِنْدَ

قَدْرِهِ.

  1. Wisdom guides [one] to the right.

8ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ تُرْشِدُ.

  1. Wisdom is protection.

9ـ اَلْحِكْمَةُ عِصْمَةٌ.

  1. Wisdoms are the gardens of the noble ones.

10ـ اَلْحِكَمُ رِياضُ النُّبَلاءِ.

  1. When you get lost from the wisdom of Allah then stand with His power, for indeed [even] if you do not get of His wisdom that which can heal you, you will not lose of His power that which will suffice you.

11ـ إذا ضَلَلْتَ عَنْ حِكْمَةِ اللّهِ فَقِفْ عِنْدَ قُدْرَتِهِ،

فَإنَّكَ إنْ فاتَكَ مِنْ حِكْمَتِهِ ما يَشْفِيكَ فَلَنْ يَفُوتَكَ مِنْ قُدْرَتِهِ ما يَكْفِيكَ.

  1. Through wisdom, the veil of knowledge is removed.

12ـ بِالحِكْمَةِ يُكْشَفُ غِطاءُ العِلْمِ.

  1. The fruit of wisdom is success.

13ـ ثَمَرَةُ الْحِكْمَةِ الفَوْزُ.

  1. The fruit of wisdom is disdain for the world and infatuation with the Eternal Paradise.

14ـ ثَمَرَةُ الْحِكْمَةِ التَّنَزُّهُ عَنِ الدُّنيا، والوَلَهُ

بِجَنَّةِ المَأْوى.

  1. The beauty of wisdom is kindness and good amicability.

15ـ جَمالُ الْحِكْمَةِ الرِّفْقُ، وحُسْنُ المُداراةِ.

  1. The boundary of wisdom is turning away from the perishing abode [of this world] and being infatuated with the Eternal Abode [of the Hereafter].

16ـ حَدُّ الْحِكْمَةِ اَلإعْراضُ عَنْ دارِ الفَناءِ، والتَّوَلُّهُ

بِدارِ البَقاءِ.

  1. The wisdom of a lowly person elevates him and the ignorance of a respectable person degrades him.

17ـ حِكْمَةُ الدَّنِّي تَرْفَعُهُ، وجَهْلُ الشَّـريفِ يَضَعُهُ.

  1. Take wisdom from wherever it may be, for verily wisdom is the lost property of every believer.

18ـ خُذِ الحِكْمَةَ أنّى كانَتْ، فَإنَّ الحِكْمَةَ ضالَّةُ كُلِّ

مُؤْمِن.

  1. Take wisdom from the one who brings it to you, and look at what he is said and do not look at who said it.

19ـ خُذِ الحِكْمَةَ مِمَّنْ أتاكَ بِها، وانْظُرْ إلى ما قالَ،

ولاتَنْظُرْهُ إلى مَنْ قالَ.

  1. The embellishment of wisdom is being uninterested in the pleasures of this world.

20ـ زَيْنُ الحِكْمَةِ الزُّهْدُ فِي الدُّنيا.

  1. The lost possession of an intelligent person is wisdom, so he is more entitled to it wherever it may be.

21ـ ضالَّةُ العاقِلِ الحِكْمَةُ، فَهُوَ أحَقُّ بِها حَيْثُ كانَتْ.

  1. The lost possession of a sage is wisdom, so he seeks it out wherever it may be.

22ـ ضالَّةُ الحَكِيمِ الحِكْمَةُ، فَهُوَ يَطْلُبُها حَيْثُ كانَتْ.

  1. Espouse wisdom, for indeed it is an exquisite ornament.

23ـ عَلَيْكَ بِالحِكْمَةِ فَإنَّها الحِلْيَةُ الفاخِرَةُ.

  1. The prize of the sagacious is learning wisdom.

24ـ غَنِيمَةُ الأكْياسِ مُدارَسَةُ الحِكْمَةِ.

  1. Sometimes words of wisdom may be uttered by one who is not wise.

25ـ قَدْ يَقُولُ الحِكْمَةَ غَيْرُ الحَكيمِ.

  1. Wisdom has been paired with protection [from sins].

26ـ قُرِنَتِ الحِكْمَةُ بِالعِصْمَةِ.

  1. Everything leads to weariness except novel wisdom.

27ـ كُلُّ شَيْء يُمِلُّ ما خَلا طَرائِفَ الحِكَمِ.

  1. How can one be patient in disassociating from the enemies [of his felicity] when he is not aided by wisdom?

28ـ كَيْفَ يَصْبِرُ عَلى مُبايَنَةِ الأضْدادِ مَنْ لَمْ تُعِنْهُ

الحِكْمَةُ.

  1. Every time wisdom grows stronger, lust grows weaker.

29ـ كُلَّما قَوِيَتِ الحِكْمَةُ ضَعُفَتِ الشَّهْوَةُ.

  1. Acquiring wisdom is [a means of] beautifying speech and employing kindness.

30ـ كَسْبُ الحِكْمَةِ إجْمالُ النُّطْقِ، واسْتِعْمالُ الرِّفْقِ.

  1. One who enjoys the insights of wisdom is not bereft of delight.

31ـ مَنْ تَفَكَّهَ بِالحِكَمِ لَمْ يَعْدِمِ اللَّذَّةَ.

  1. One who attaches himself to wisdom has ennobled himself.

32ـ مَنْ لَهِجََ بِالحِكْمَةِ فَقَدْ شَرَّفَ نَفْسَهُ.

  1. One who is known for [his] wisdom is looked at with reverence.

33ـ مَنْ عُرِفَ بِالحِكْمَةِ لاحَظَتْـهُ العُيُونُ بِالوَقارِ.

  1. One whose wisdom becomes established understands the lessons [that can be learnt from the past].

34ـ مَنْ ثَبَتَتْ لَهُ الحِكْمَةُ عَرَفَ العِبْرَةَ.

  1. From the treasures of the unseen comes forth wisdom.

35ـ مِنْ خَزائِنِ الغَيْبِ تَظْهَرُ الْحِكْمَةُ.

  1. It is part of wisdom to obey the one who is above you, to respect those who are at your level and to be fair to those who are below you.

36ـ مِنَ الحِكْمَةِ طاعَتُكَ لِمَنْ فَوْقَكَ وإجْلالُكَ مَنْ في

طَبَقَتِكَ، وَإنْصافُكَ لِمَنْ دُوْنَكَ.

  1. It is from [the dictates of] wisdom that you should not dispute with the one who is above you; you should not humiliate the one who is below you; you should not pursue that which is not in your ability; you should not let your tongue go against [what is in] your heart, nor let your words go against your deeds; you should not speak about that which you have no knowledge of; and you should not leave the matter when it comes in front of you and seek it when it has passed.

37ـ مِنَ الحِكْمَةِ أنْ لاتُنازِعَ مَنْ فَوْقَكَ، ولاتَسْتَذِلَّ مَنْ

دُونَكَ، وَلاتَتَعاطى ما لَيْسَ في قُدْرَتِكَ، ولا يُخالِفَ لِسانُكَ قَلْبَكَ، ولاقَوْلُكَ فِعْلَكَ، ولاتَتَكَلَّمَ فِيما لاتَعْلَمُ، ولاتَتْرُكَ الأمـْرَ عِنْدَ الإقْبالِ، وتَطْلُبَهُ عِنْدَ الإدْبارِ.

  1. Gatherings of wisdom are the plantations of the praiseworthy.

38ـ مَجْلِسُ الحِكْمَةِ غَرْسُ (عُرْسُ) الفُضَلاءِ.

  1. Lustful desire and wisdom do not go together.

-39 لاتَجْتَمِعُ الشَّهْوَةُ والحِكْمَةُ.

  1. Wisdom does not reside in a heart [that is filled] with lust.

40ـ لاتَسْكُنُ الحِكْمَةُ قَلْباً مَعَ شَهْوَة.

  1. There is no wisdom except with safeguarding [from sin].

41ـ لاحِكْمَةَ إلاّ بِعِصْمَة.
