Generosity

Generosity السخاء

  1. Generosity earns love [of people] and adorns one’s character.

1ـ السَّخاءُ يَكْسِبُ المَحَبَّةَ، ويَزينُ الأخْلاقَ.

  1. Generosity is one of the two felicities.

2ـ السَّخاءُ أحَدُ السَّعادَتَيْنِ.

  1. Generosity clears away sins and attracts the love of the hearts.

3ـ السَّخاءُ يُمَحِصُّ الذُّنُوبَ، ويَجْلِبُ مَحَبَّةَ القُلُوبِ.

  1. Generosity and courage are honourable instincts which Allah, the Glorified, puts in the one whom He loves and has subjected to trials.

4ـ السَّخاءُ، والشَجاعَةُ، غَرائِزُ شَريفَةٌ، يَضَعُهَا اللّهُ

سُبْحانَهُ فيمَنْ أحَبَّهُ، وامْتَحَنَهُ.

  1. Generosity means being open-handed with your [own] wealth while being cautious with the wealth of others.

5ـ السَّخاءُ أنْ تَكُونَ بِمالِكَ مُتَبَرِّعاً وعَنْ مالِ غَيرِكَ

مُتَوَرِّعاً.

  1. Generosity is that which one gives [himself], for if he gives after being asked, then it is [a result of] shame and embarrassment.

6ـ السَّخاءُ ما كانَ ابْتِداءً فَإنْ كانَ عَنْ مَسْئَلَة فَحَياءٌ

وتَذَمُّمٌ.

  1. Generosity is the fruit of the intellect and contentment is the evidence of nobility.

7ـ السَّخاءُ ثَمَرَةُ العَقْلِ، والقَناعَةُ بُرْهانُ النُّبْلِ.

  1. Generosity and shame are the best characteristics.

8ـ السَّخاءُ والحَياءُ أفْضَلُ الخُلْقِ.

  1. The most courageous of people is the most generous of them.

9ـ أشْجَعُ النَّاسِ أسْخاهُمْ.

  1. The most honourable of qualities is generosity, and the most universal in benefit is justice.

10ـ أكْرَمُ الأخْلاقِ السَّخاءُ، وأعَمُّها نَفْعاً العَدْلُ.

  1. The best [form of] generosity is for you to be open-handed with your wealth while being cautious with the wealth of others.

11ـ أفْضَلُ السَّخاءِ أنْ تَكُونَ بِمالِكَ مُتَبَرِّعاً، وعَنْ مالِ

غَيْرِكَ مُتَوَرِّعاً.

  1. Verily the generosity of keeping oneself away from that which others possess is better than the generosity of giving.

12ـ إنَّ سَخاءَ النَّفْسِ عَمّا في أيْدِي النّاسِ لأفْضَلُ مِنْ سَخاءِ

البَذْلِ.

  1. The best thing by which praise is gained, is generosity; and the thing that draws forth the most abundant, lasting benefits is charity.

13ـ إنَّ أفْضَلَ مَا اسْتُجْلِبَ بِهِ الثَّناءُ، اَلسَّخاءُ، وإنَّ

أجْزَلَ مَا اسْتُدِرَّتْ بِهِ الأرْباحُ الباقِيَةُ، اَلصَّدَقَةُ.

  1. Generosity is a [righteous] trait; honour is a virtue.

14ـ السَّخاءُ سَجِيَّةٌ، الشَّـرَفُ مَزِيَّةٌ.

  1. Generosity is a [virtuous] quality.

15ـ السَّخاءُ خُلْقٌ.

  1. Generosity is the adornment of a human being.

16ـ السَّخاءُ زَيْنُ الإنْسانِ.

  1. Generosity sows [the seeds of] love.

17ـ اَلسَّخاءُ يَزْرَعُ المَحَبَّةَ.

  1. Generosity is the most honourable habit.

18ـ اَلسَّخاءُ أشْرَفُ عادَة.

  1. Generosity is a quality of the Prophets.

19ـ اَلسَّخاءُ خُلُقُ الأنْبِياءِ.

  1. Generosity bears the fruit of [spiritual] purity.

20ـ اَلسَّخاءُ يُثْمِرُ الصَّفاءَ.

  1. Generosity covers up [one’s] faults.

21ـ اَلسَّخاءُ سِتْرُ العُيُوبِ.

  1. Generosity earns praise.

22ـ اَلسَّخاءُ يَكْسِبُ الحَمْدَ.

  1. Generosity is the symbol of magnanimity and nobility.

23ـ اَلسَّخاءُ عُنْوانُ المُرُوَّةِ والنُّبْلِ.

  1. Through generosity, actions become beautiful.

24ـ بِالسَّخاءِ تُزانُ الأفْعالُ.

  1. Through generosity, faults are hidden.

25ـ بِالسَّخاءِ تُسْتَرُ العُيُوبُ.

  1. Adorn yourself with generosity and piety, for these two are the embellishments of faith and the most honourable of your traits.

26ـ تَحَلَّ بِالسَّخاءِ والوَرَعِ فَهُما حِلْيَةُ الإيمانِ وأشْرَفُ

خِلالِكَ.

  1. The best generosity is that which corresponds to the situations of need.

27ـ خَيْرُ السَّخاءِ ما صادَفَ مَوْضِعَ الحاجَةِ.

  1. Generosity is the cause of adoration.

28ـ سَبَبُ المَحَبَّةِ السَّخاءُ.

  1. The cause of ascendancy is generosity.

29ـ سَبَبُ السِّيادَةِ السَّخاءُ.

  1. The disgrace of generosity is extravagance.

30ـ شَيْنُ السَّخاءِ السَّرَفُ.

  1. He who holds back from giving has oppressed generosity.

31ـ ظَلَمَ السَّخاءَ مَنْ مَنَعَ العَطاءَ.

  1. Espouse generosity, for indeed it is the fruit of the intellect.

32ـ عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّخاءِ فَإنَّهُ ثَمَرَةُ العَقْلِ.

  1. Espouse generosity and good etiquette for verily these two [traits] increase sustenance and bring about adoration.

33ـ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّخاءِ وحُسْنِ الخُلْقِ، فَإنَّهُما يَزيدانِ

الرِّزْقَ، ويُوجِبانِ المَحَبَّةَ.

  1. One’s generosity is proportionate to one’s magnanimity.

34ـ على قَدْرِ المُرُوءَةِ تَكُونُ السَّخاوَةُ.

  1. Cover up your faults with generosity for it is indeed a covering for faults.

35ـ غَطُّوا مَعائِبَكُمْ بِالسَّخاءِ فَإنَّهُ سِتْرُ العُيُوبِ.

  1. In generosity there is affection.

36ـ فِي السَّخاءِ اَلمَحَبَّةُ.

34ـ على قَدْرِ المُرُوءَةِ تَكُونُ السَّخاوَةُ.

  1. Cover up your faults with generosity for it is indeed a covering for faults.

35ـ غَطُّوا مَعائِبَكُمْ بِالسَّخاءِ فَإنَّهُ سِتْرُ العُيُوبِ.

  1. In generosity there is affection.

36ـ فِي السَّخاءِ اَلمَحَبَّةُ.

  1. Abundance of generosity increases [one’s] friends and reforms [one’s] enemies.

37ـ كَثْرَةُ السَّخاءِ تُكْثِرُ الأوْلِياءَ وتَسْتَصْلِحُ الأعْداءَ.

  1. If you were to see generosity in the form of a man, you would surely see him as a handsome person, pleasing to look at.

38ـ لَوْ رَأيْتُمُ السَّخاءَ رَجُلاً، لَرَأيْتُمُوهُ حَسَناً يَسُـرُّ

النّاظِرينَ.

  1. When there is neither generosity nor shame in a person, then death is better for him than life.

39ـ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ سَخاءٌ ولا حَياءٌ، فَالمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ

مِنَ الحَياةِ.

  1. What a good trait generosity is!

40ـ نِعْمَ السَّجِيَّةُ السَّخاءُ.

  1. There is no merit like generosity.

41ـ لا فَضيلَةَ كَالسَّخاءِ.

  1. There can be no generosity with nothingness.[^1]

42ـ لاسَخاءَ معَ عَدَم.

  1. Generosity is showing affection to the beggar and giving open-handedly.

43ـ اَلسَّخاءُ حُبُّ السَّائِلِ وبَذْلُ النائِلِ.
