42: Consultation (shoora)

This chapter was revealed in sequence after the previous one on [Signs] Spelled Out 41 d before the next, Luxury 43. It consists of five sections of 53 late Meccan except for VV. 23-24 and V. which are all in section III, and date from Madina.

The consultation referred to in V. 38 IV(c) gives us a basis for democratic action which is often quoted even though it is not a full guide for parliamentary procedure God's attributes (I) should become clear to those who associate others with Him II). Morals and ethics form another theme (IV), especially in cases of self-defense and protection. The final paragraph describes the process of Divine inspiration.
